Many of you may have heard of a curricular approach but may be curious, unsure, or worried about what it could look like in student affairs functional areas beyond housing and residence life. A curricular approach has many benefits when applied across functional areas. Once you have agreed upon learning aims rooted in your campus culture, context, and students, each functional area develops an Educational Plan to align their work with other functions to foster student learning and success.
How this could actually look can be a bit of a mystery, especially for those outside of housing and residence life. This May, I’m diving into how the curricular approach can be applied across different functional areas in student affairs. I’ll be hosting a series of 50-minute conversations about possibilities, ideas, and practices in various functional areas. For each conversation, I’ll be joined by two featured guests who have done this work in these functional areas.
If you join this series, you will:
- Connect with colleagues working in your functional area.
- Learn what others are doing and how they are doing it.
- Innovate new ideas together.
- Get expert guidance on potential future directions.
This is designed to help those who are:
- Considering a curricular approach and curious what it could look like in different functional areas.
- Launching their curricular approach and looking for ideas to build into their Educational Plan.
- Currently using a curricular approach and looking for ideas to take your Educational Plan to the next level.
- Stuck with your Educational Plans and ready to move toward making your work more effective for students and easier for your staff.
Each session includes:
- About 50 minutes live over Zoom. Recordings will be available to access all of May, June, and July for those who register.
- Keith will facilitate and offer expert guidance and engage in group discussion, problem-solving, and ideation.
- Each session will include featured guests in this functional area (below).
