A client recently canceled a six-month leadership development series focused on leadership, strategic planning, and succession planning. They had to cancel the series because they were too busy.
This is a real organization facing genuine and incredibly pressing demands. Complex, high-stakes, with life-and-death responsibilities on the line. The busyness was not an excuse. It was real.
There is never a good time to invest in your leadership team. That is exactly why you should do it now.
Here is what I know from years of coaching senior leaders: the moment you feel too busy to invest in strategy and capacity is the moment you need it most.
When individual coaching clients message me ahead of a session to say they are considering rescheduling because there is too much going on, my response is always the same. That is exactly when we need to talk. Most of the time, they keep the call. And by the end, they share how that one hour saved them many more. They have perspective, clarity on what matters most, a plan for the most pressing issues, and a clear sense of what they can let go of.
Now consider what that same investment could do at the team level. What if those leaders, each responsible for dozens or hundreds of staff, had been given the time and structure to get perspective together to think strategically, set clear priorities, and build the collective capacity to move forward with clarity? How many hours, collectively, would have been recovered? How much better would they be for the people they lead and serve?
There is never a perfect time. There is always change, always complexity, always more than any team can manage. That is not a reason to wait. It is the reason to invest now. Your team deserves the capacity to lead well, not just to survive the next thing coming at them. If you are ready to invest in your leadership team, I would be glad to talk.
